2000 gti worth it?
Im considering trading my civic for a 2000 VW gti 1.8t. It looks mint in the pictures, just needs new rims. Full tbe, tune, intake, new clutch and flywheel... Claims it runs great looks great, only flaw is cel for catless exhaust which i will read the code to check, and a power steering leak, minor. He knows where its coming from too. 125k miles on it.
Should i trade my civic? I want it because it'd be quick and nice enough to hopefully pacify me for another year or two until insurance goes down and I can get a wrx.
Thanks everybody

I would just to get away from the cookie cutter Honda (no offence) but I would go threw that car with a fine comb... you don't want to trade a good car for some one else's headache...

1998 gs-t??? trade?
So someone offered to trade his 1998 Gs-T with 130k miles for my civic. In short all it has is an exhaust and intake with a brand new clutch and flywheel. No rust on strut towers, surface rust starting on rear hatch. Claims it starts right up no problems, clean oil when changed, no blended fluids, no problems with the car. He wants to trade to start a new project with my civic. Seems legit. I will be checking it out monday with a fine tooth comb. Anything i should look out for? Oh and AC works great lol. I only plan to keep the car for another year or two. Unless i fall inlove, then i might keep it and swap the motor and money wont be an issue then.
Thanks guys

Smoke at idle most likely means turbo is on its way out. Oil sending unit common place for oil leak. Oil gauge as long as it reads pressure and is not at 0 then it should be fine (there known to lie).

Re: 2000 gti worth it?
If i check for those, and everything is good, and the test drive feels good, should i bite at it? And just replace shit as it happens. I have a feeling i will love it and end up doing a swap when the engine goes. But you never know. It's a risk you take with any tuner i suppose. For mods it only has a full 3" catted exhaust with no cels even though im bringing a code reader. Also has a bov, fmic and an injen intake. New stage 3 clutch and lightened flywheel.th1eternaldragon wrote:Smoke at idle most likely means turbo is on its way out. Oil sending unit common place for oil leak. Re: 2000 gti worth it?
Terms like "stage 3 clutch" scare me when people throw them out there... tells me they are either bullshitting or don't know what they are talking about... But for the most part either they run good or they don't... On a plus side, they are easy to fix and get parts for...
Re: 2000 gti worth it?
It is a six puck clutch paired with a new fidenza lightened flywheel. And thats the way i look at it. And its my foot in the door into the "tuner" world. I will have money to spend because there will be no car payment nor will insurance be too bad. So if worse comes to worse and the engine goes after a year, i figure if i still like the car i can take the boltons off and swap the engine for a 6-bolt. They seem to be a good engine in the dsm world. which i am new too. hahaMARTINI wrote:Terms like "stage 3 clutch" scare me when people throw them out there... tells me they are either bullshitting or don't know what they are talking about... It only has an injen intake and a full 3" exhaust. Evo 8 wheels. It doesnt have much really.

It sounds like a pretty decent deal to me. As long as everything operates correctly.

Yeah i checked it out, I actually cant get a title for my car. The DMV wrote and certified an excusable form certified by the dmv so the purchaser would have no problem registering it. THE A****** NEVER CALLED ME BACK THOUGH!! I asked if he had the title and for the vin to see if his car is legit and he didnt answer. WTF! I was getting excited! haha

Re: 2000 gti worth it?
If i were u i think i would just stick with the civic for now untill u find something u really like. I mean u have what seems to be a really clean civic and they can be really nice if u do it up right.

I hate being categorized as a F****** tool though. And they can be quick but it takes tons of money. Although i thought about spending the money just to learn about cars and my car. I was thinking about doing a swap. But I HATE the name civics have now from all the arrogant pricks out there. I'm in no hurry anyway, if something comes along it comes along. It is a great civic i will say that hahaha

Here is a gst... worth it guys? No p/s, no a/c, no rust... no title. It is a little sketchy now because i still had his number... this is the car that the guy blew me off on. Now he claims he is a truck driver... no evo rims. its a little weird
Need advice
